As part of the Webster and Horsfall Group (W&H Group), Birmingham’s Tyseley Energy Park (TEP) has been honoured with the King’s Award for Enterprise in the category of Sustainable Development. This accolade, part of the UK’s most esteemed business awards program now in its 58th year and previously known as the Queen’s Award, highlights the Group’s commitment to pioneering sustainable energy solutions. The award reflects His Majesty The King’s desire to perpetuate the legacy of HM Queen Elizabeth II by honouring exceptional UK businesses.
Founded in 1720, W&H Group stands as one of the Midlands’ oldest manufacturing companies, specializing in high-quality wire and wire rope products. It is celebrated for its significant contributions to historical projects such as the first successful Trans-Atlantic Telegraph cable in 1866. The Group’s leadership has propelled the transformation of 17 acres of underutilized brownfield land into TEP, a state-of-the-art green technology hub. This initiative supports the advancement of sustainable power, transport, heat, waste, and recycling solutions, and it is integral to Birmingham’s positioning as the heart of the green industrial revolution.
TEP, a brainchild of W&H Group’s extensive manufacturing heritage, collaborates with academic institutions, industrial partners, and local authorities to foster clean growth and green innovation. It offers incubation space and resources to green technology startups, and direct access to the University of Birmingham’s Energy Innovation Centre.
David Horsfall, W&H Group’s Head of Property and Sustainability, expressed his gratitude for the recognition: “It is a great honour to receive this award, which is a testament to the collaborative efforts of many partners committed to sustainable solutions for a greener, cleaner, healthier Birmingham.”
Robert Horsfall, Head of Finance and Strategic Projects at W&H Group, added: “Receiving the King’s Award for Sustainable Development is incredibly exciting. We are eager to leverage TEP as a launchpad for the creation of Birmingham’s Green Innovation Quarter, aiming to establish an exemplary sustainable working and living environment in the region.”
This award not only celebrates TEP’s leadership in sustainability but also underscores W&H Group’s broader strategy and enduring commitment to inspiring sustainable development community-wide.
